Exploring future opportunities for students in AI and design thinking

The ABCN Digital Careers Mentorship programme was an immersive experience designed to inspire high school students sharing our careers in technology, UX design, and emerging fields. Through interactive sessions, round robin Q&As, and hands-on activities, students engaged directly with professional mentors, explored subjects such as AI and design thinking, and gained practical insights into possible professional pathways.

How we delivered impact

The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between education and industry by showcasing real-world applications of technology and design.

By connecting students with experienced mentors, the programme fostered curiosity, built confidence, and encouraged participants to envision themselves in future tech careers. Sessions were structured to demystify complex topics and make them accessible, relevant, and engaging for young learners.

The mentorship programme combined career café discussions with interactive experiences. Students rotated through small group sessions, where they could ask mentors about their work, career journeys, and the realities of UX design. Facilitators introduced key concepts in AI, design thinking using practical activities such as brainwriting and prototyping to spark creativity and collaboration. The round robin format ensured every student had the opportunity to engage, ask questions, and build connections with professionals.

Inspiring future pathways

As a facilitator, I collaborated with ABCN and fellow mentors to design the agenda and session assets. My responsibilities included developing interactive activities, presenting on UX and technology topics, and guiding students through ideation and Q&A sessions. I ensured that each rotation was inclusive, engaging, and tailored to the students’ interests, helping them connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities.

Lasting outcomes

The ABCN Digital Careers Mentorship programme successfully inspired students to think critically about their futures, explore new possibilities in technology, and connect with professionals who could guide and support their journeys. The collaborative format, topical content, and hands-on approach left a lasting impression on all participants.
